The most significant aspects of used oil-fired space heaters are the ability to recycle used oil on-site, and to recover heat energy in the process.

Used oil is the largest single source of water pollution in the U.S. One gallon of used oil can ruin 1 million gallons of water and create an eight-acre slick on surface water.

On-site recycling also conserves energy that might otherwise be used to transport used oil hundreds - even thousands - of miles for diposition. Used oil-fired heaters also reduce the need for gas or oil delivery to fuel conventional heaters.
